What is Solar Curtailment?
Understanding Solar Curtailment with Maxem Energy Controller
Introduction
Solar Curtailment is one of Maxem's EMS (Energy management system) features. It is an advanced control mechanism designed to optimize solar energy production by temporarily limiting output when generation exceeds consumption or delivery capacity. This ensures efficient energy management, prevents grid overload, and prevents grid feed-in when electricity prices are negative.
How Solar Curtailment Works
-
Monitoring and Communication:
- The Maxem Energy Controller continuously monitors solar power generation using a connected kWh meter.
- It communicates with inverters via data cables to manage energy flow effectively.
-
Automatic Adjustment:
- When solar power generation surpasses physical or contractual limits, the system automatically reduces inverter output.
- This adjustment maintains energy production within safe thresholds, preventing potential grid overload.
-
Enhanced Solar Utilization:
- Surplus solar energy can be redirected to charge electric vehicles, promoting a higher share of solar-based charging and generating HBEs.
- Compatibility and Integration:
-
- Supports multiple inverter types on a single site.
- Seamlessly integrates with Maxem’s Load Management (other EMS features) and CPO Proxy (Maxem Connect).
Subscription and Monitoring
- A monthly subscription is required, based on the peak installed solar capacity.
- Users can access monitoring and insights through the Maxem Energy Cloud platform, providing valuable data for energy management.
