What is Priority Charging?
Priority charging is an extension on our load balancing system that allows MEC users to divert more of the locations capacity towards charge points of their choosing. An example could be to increase the charging speed of EVs that are essential for company processes and for which the charging is more urgent compared to employees or visitors.
How does Priority Charging work?
At Maxem we have two different forms of Priority Charging: Priority Charging basic and Priority Charging premium.
Priority Charging Basic (Prioritizing a Charge Point)
- Priority Charging Basic is an add-on for Static Load Balancing (SLB) and Dynamic Load Management (DLM) and does not induce extra costs when SLB or DLM is activated.
- When clicking the Priority Charge button in the charge-point table, the charge-point gets set to priority charging indefinitely. If a user wants to disable priority charging on the charge-point after a session is done, they need to do so manually.
- The following picture shows an example where one of the charge points is receiving priority, resulting in the prioritized charge point receiving 18kW while the other one receives 4kW.
Priority Charging Premium (Prioritizing a charge session)
- Priority Charging Premium is a paid add-on for SLB and DLM.
- Priority Charging Premium allows users to prioritize specific charge sessions. After the prioritized charge session is finished, the charge point goes back to its default set point profile.
