What do the different OCPP statuses of a charging point mean?

OCPP 1.6 defines 9 different statuses for a charging point in relation to a charging transaction. Below are the explanations of each status:

  1. Available
    The charging point is available for connecting a charging cable and starting a charging transaction.

  2. Preparing
    The EV is connected to the charging point via a charging cable, but the transaction has not started yet, and no power is flowing.

  3. Charging
    The charging transaction has started, and the EV is charging.

  4. SuspendedEV
    The charging transaction has been stopped by the EV, and no power is being supplied because the EV has reached its set State Of Charge (SOC), but the EV is still connected to the charging point.

  5. SuspendedEVSE
    The charging transaction has been stopped by the charging point, and no power is being supplied, but the EV is still connected to the charging point.

  6. Finishing
    The charging transaction has ended, but the charging point is not yet available for a new user because the charging cable has not been removed or the EV has not been moved.

  7. Reserved
    The charging point is unavailable for a charging transaction because it has been reserved for a future transaction.

  8. Unavailable
    The charging point is unavailable for a charging transaction because it has been set as inoperable.

  9. Faulted
    The charging point is unavailable for a charging transaction due to an error or fault reported by the charging point.
